Alexandra Stokes holds an acting position in the North Carolina Symphony for piccolo and flute. Prior to joining the North Carolina Symphony, she was a freelance musician in the Rochester, New York area and a frequent substitute musician with orchestras such as the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, The Syracuse Orchestra, and the Canton Symphony Orchestra. With the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, she premiered and recorded Derrick Skye’s To Seek Is Jubilance.
Stokes is a senior at the Eastman School of Music, where she studies with Bonita Boyd and Anne Harrow and regularly performs in the Eastman Wind Ensemble, the Eastman Philharmonia, Musica Nova, various chamber groups, and media ensembles. As a member of the Eastman Wind Ensemble, she appears on recordings of Jeff Tyzik’s Symphonies and Jazz Concerto for Soprano Sax and Wind Ensemble, which are set to be released in 2025. Passionate about new music, she has also premiered pieces by Samuel Adler, Brad Lubman, Zihan Wu, and Daniel Pesca. She is finishing her studies online and expects to earn her bachelor’s degree in December of 2024.
