It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Erik Dyke, a cherished musician of the North Carolina Symphony. Erik joined the double bass section of the North Carolina Symphony in 1978, and during the past 40+ years left his mark on the hearts and minds of Symphony patrons, young and old.
In addition to performing with the Symphony at public and education concerts, Erik inspired young learners across the state through our music and literacy program, which serves Pre-K students. Erik’s vivacious and warm personality endeared him to the many people he met around the state, whether in their seats in the concert halls or while walking through the lobby, or even while cycling through the community to and from work.
It is bittersweet to bid farewell to someone who enriched so many lives with his kindness, inspiring presence, and extraordinary talent.
May Erik rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing.
This weekend’s performances will be dedicated to the memory of our friend and colleague.
