K. Lee Morris joined the North Carolina Symphony in the 2024/25 season. Originally from Lynnwood, Washington, K. Lee began her musical studies on the piano at age seven before beginning the violin at the age of 10.
A dedicated musician and academic, K. Lee received a bachelor’s degree with highest distinction in violin performance and music theory from the Eastman School of Music, studying with Mikhail Kopelman. She continued her studies in both fields with a dual master’s degree from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where she studied with Grigory Kalinovsky and Alexander Kerr. While at Indiana University, K. Lee taught as an associate instructor of music theory while continuing to pursue performance with aspirations of becoming an orchestral musician.
K. Lee has played as a violinist for Ballet Indiana and acted as a substitute musician with the Terre Haute and Richmond symphony orchestras and Owensboro Symphony. In her summers, she has participated in various music festivals, including the Chautauqua Institution Festival where she served as concertmaster, and Festival del Lago where she both performed and coached young chamber musicians. Prior to joining NCS, K. Lee was an acting section violinist with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and is grateful for the experience of working with such wonderful musicians.
In her free time, K. Lee enjoys painting, hiking, and photographing squirrels.
