SUBIN SHIN


Violinist Subin Shin joined the North Carolina Symphony in 2024. Prior to his appointment with NCS, he was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and served as a substitute violinist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra.

Shin is the winner of the Korea National University of Arts Concerto Competition, where he performed Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with KNUA Symphony. As the winner of the 50th Dong-A Competition, he performed Brahms’ Violin Concerto with the Korean National Symphony Orchestra. His solo performances also include appearances with the North Czech Philharmonic and the Korean National Police Orchestra.

Shin has garnered numerous prizes from competitions such as the Berlin International Competition, the CBS Broadcasting Competition, and the Ehwa Competition. In addition, he was selected to give a chamber recital at the Kumho Young Chamber Concert. He has performed in master classes with Joshua Bell, Svetlin Roussev, Ellen dePasquale, Krzysztof Węgrzyn, Régis Pasquier, Koichiro Harada, Oleh Krysa, and Gérard Poulet.

A native of Busan, South Korea, Shin was born into a musical family and began his violin studies at the age of eight. He received his bachelor’s degree in violin performance from Korea National University of Arts, where he studied with Nam Yun Kim. Upon moving to the U.S., he earned a master’s degree in music and Performance Diplomas in both solo and orchestral studies with a full scholarship from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he studied with Kevork Mardirossian and Alexander Kerr.
