Mary E. Boone is currently Assistant Principal Flute with the North Carolina Symphony and has appeared as a soloist with them, as well as the South Carolina Chamber Orchestra and Augusta Symphony. Formerly Principal Flute with the Augusta Symphony, Boone has also performed with the Columbia Philharmonic, Tanglewood Festival, Waterloo Festival, Bowdoin Summer Music Festival in Maine, and Bellingham Festival in Washington.
She received her master’s degree in music and an artist diploma from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with Jeffrey Khaner. First-prize winner of both the Music Teachers National Association Wurlitzer Competition and the Gertrude Seiberling Prize of the Tuesday Musical Club in Ohio, Boone remains an active recitalist and teacher. She has taught at the South Carolina Governor’s School of the Arts, Cleveland Preparatory Department, North Carolina Governor’s School and St. Augustine’s College. She currently teaches flute at North Carolina State University.
